Pitt Street metro station

The development of Sydney’s CBD continues to provide the MGP Sydney Water team with interesting site specific challenges. These include dealing with heritage and oversized critical assets that require protection, whilst enabling new developments to be constructed and the CBD to grow.

MGP designed the Sydney Water infrastructure for the development of Pitt Street metro station.

The project involved a detailed major works design, building plan approval over/near heritage assets, tunnelling, deep basement excavations and anchoring.

Site challenges/solutions: Heritage assets surrounding the development needed to be protected from the construction works such as tunnelling, deep basement excavations and anchoring, our building plan approval assessment ensured all the supportive design documentation and correct construction approach was taken to ensure these risks were mitigated.

Additionally, the new Pitt Street Station will require construction work at each underground station entry, with the construction implemented in two (2) stages. MGP managed five (5) Development Applications with Sydney Water to attain the required certificates, approvals and protect the assets at each stage accordingly.

This in depth approval and connection schedule was implemented to ensure a successful delivery of the project.
